OK, I’m not trying to be flippant here. The news is bad. Very good people have been hurt and swindled by very people. Innocent people are losing their jobs and their savings. But I repeat, as a business person, what has this got to do with you?

Even in a down economy, life goes on. People still need goods and services. You provide those goods and services. You are the best at what you do. You have no competition. I mean that. There is not another person in the Universe with your unique insight, knowledge, life experience and talent. You are positively amazing and your clients love you. They rave about you to their friends, colleagues and neighbors. In short, they know you, like you and trust you. They need your services. The economy doesn’t matter. If you believe that you have no competition, that you are special and unique, then you will inspire others to hire you and buy your products. If you don’t believe that – worry about the economy, worry about the competition – well, I’m sorry for you because you get what you think.

Here is what I teach my clients – a new and extremely powerful way to define their ideal customer. Here it is and I urge you to commit it to memory:

Your ideal client is someone who:

1. Already appreciates the value you bring
2. Is willing to pay you a fair price
3. Has the money to pay you.

That’s it. Can you see that the definition of your ideal client has nothing to do with the economy? Rain or shine, crash or boom, your ideal client is out there, waiting to avail themselves of your unique abilities.

A very important word about attitude. Being successful in this current economy is something to be extremely grateful for. You are attracting customers. You are grateful each and every day for the fact that you recognize your unique client attracting qualities AND your clients are there for you. There is no room in this equation for arrogance for your success or lack of compassion for others that are not doing so well. Be compassionate for others suffering WHILE you are being grateful for your success. Do what you can to help others. The true secret of success is having a grateful heart AND a generous spirit. No scarcity thinking allowed. Remember, you have no competition.I wish you all the clients you can and will attract – even in this economy.
